When your Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) assessment takes place, one of our in-house EPC assessors will visit your home to carry out a short survey. The assessment helps determine how energy-efficient your property is and gives it a rating from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient).
What happens during the assessment
The assessor will look at key features of your home, including:
- Wall depths, building construction and insulation in the loft (if applicable)
- The heating and hot water system
- Windows and doors
- Lighting and overall layout
They’ll take a few measurements and notes to calculate your property’s energy rating.
Do I need to prepare?
No preparation is needed. The assessor just needs easy access to each room, the boiler and the loft (if you have one). There’s no need to move furniture or tidy up - the visit is quick and straightforward.
How long it takes
The assessment usually takes 20-60 minutes, depending on the size of your home. You’ll receive your EPC within a few days of the visit.
Cost
Your EPC is completely free and arranged by our team at a time that's convenient to you.
Validity
An EPC is valid for 10 years, so you won’t need another one unless you’ve made major energy-related improvements to your home.
